Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch is Designed to Enhance Neighborhood Security, Heighten The Community’s Power Of Observation, Encourage Mutual Assistance, and Communication Among Neighbors.  These are the principles taught in a free training offered by the city of Virginia Beach.  Click here for a helpful PDF from the Crime Prevention Unit of the Virginia Beach Police Department.

We need everyone to be aware of their surroundings whether they are at home or just out walking or looking out their window.  If you see something – call 911 for an emergency or (757) 385-5000 for non-emergencies.

Help Brigadoon get official!

Neighbors, We are starting up the Neighborhood Watch and need your assistance with getting recognized through the city! They require that at least 15 percent of all homes within our neighborhood to have completed the following training on how to prevent crime.
https://www.vbgov.com/government/departments/police/opsdiv/Documents/NeighborhoodWatchTrainingOnline_20190916.pdf

When finished you will need to fill out your information on their site to receive credit and earn a certificate. Once we get 15 percent or more complete we will get special recognition within the city and signs will be posted at the neighborhood entrances. So please share in this great opportunity for the neighborhood! Just click the link, go through the .pdf training and when your completed don’t forget to register at the bottom.

KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS

Your own neighbors are often your single best security device. Unfortunately, many of us do not know our neighbors. Neighborhoods in which people are truly concerned about mutual safety, have extremely low burglary rates.

You can begin to build a neighborhood security system by:

  • Showing an interest in your neighborhood’s safety
  • Getting acquainted with your neighbor’s everyday living patterns
  • Utilizing social media platforms like NextDoor.com

Remember, your neighborhood needs your eyes and ears to protect your community!

Neighborhood Watch is an effective tool which has been implemented in neighborhoods throughout the nation to prevent crime.

Simple in nature, it involves:

  • Being alert to things happening in your neighborhood
  • Suspicious behavior – if you suspect anything out of the ordinary, call the non-emergency dispatch line.
