- Bringing a Little VIBE to Brigadoon
If you’ve been down to the Oceanfront in the past few years, you’ve probably noticed something magical happening—a bit of a renaissance, really. Murals have popped up everywhere, turning ordinary buildings into colorful landmarks and making a drive down there a true visual treat. It’s more than just pretty pictures—it’s public art that reflects the spirit of the community and brings people together.
Most of that magic is thanks to ViBe (short for Virginia Beach: Vi = Virginia, Be = Beach). Their mission is to promote, support, connect, and inspire the arts and creative industries. In doing so, they’ve helped grow local jobs, boost the economy, and seriously enhance our quality of life.
We couldn’t help but think—why not bring a little of that color and creativity to Brigadoon Pines Park?
So when we found out about the City of Virginia Beach Cultural Affairs Grants for Neighborhood Art Programs, we thought: This could be our chance! A chance to bring a little ViBe-style energy right here to Brigadoon.
Now, Danielle and I weren’t exactly seasoned grant writers. In fact, this was our very first go at it. But we were excited (and maybe a little naive), so we dove in. We teamed up with Aimee Bruce, a local artist who was featured in the 7th annual ViBe Creative District Mural Festival. Aimee was amazing—she walked us through what a mural project actually involves (turns out, it’s more than just paint!) and even created a sketch for us to include in the application.

We received letters of support from City Council members Michael Berlucchi and Cash Green. Their encouragement and advocacy added a huge boost to our proposal, and we’re so grateful for their backing.
We submitted the grant on a wing and a prayer… and then we waited.
In early April 2025, we got the news: We were selected!
We’re thrilled to be bringing this project to life, and even more excited to bring the community together along the way. We’ll be sharing updates here—both the highlights and the hiccups—so stay tuned!
We’d also love your help. Be on the lookout for planning committee sign-ups and volunteer opportunities. And if you’d like to support the mural as a sponsor, please reach out to Teresa Knecht at mail@brigadooncivicleague.org.
Let’s paint something beautiful, Brigadoon.

The Brigadoon Pump Track Project is funded in part by the citizens of Virginia Beach through a grant from the City of Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission.
